Explanation of terms
A future mother will hear many new terms from doctors. To understand what they mean, our little medical encyclopedia will help.
Anesthesia - a condition in which, against the background of loss or preservation of consciousness, sensations are partially or completely lost and, therefore, there is no pain. The word "anesthesia" in Greek means "numbness". It can be the result of illness, injury or the introduction of anesthetic agents (anesthetics). In the common sense, an anesthetic is called one or another way of getting rid of the patient from pain during surgery, and it is also used during childbirth.
Bacteriostatic action of drugs - a temporary suppression of the ability of microorganisms to multiply in the body.
Bactericidal action of drugs - the ability of certain antibiotics, antiseptic and other drugs to cause the death of microorganisms in the body.
Vaginosis bacterial - Disease of the female genital organs, characterized by abundant, prolonged, often with an unpleasant odor, pathological discharge from the genital tract in the absence of any pathogens of infection in the vaginal secretion. It is also possible itching, burning in the genital area and pain in the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis is considered as one of the manifestations of dysbacteriosis - a change in the composition of the normal vaginal microflora. The causes of the disease are hormonal and / or immune shifts in the body, irrational use of antibiotics - this disrupts the balance of microflora, normally colonizing the vagina.
Hemorrhoids - irreversible expansion (varicose) of veins in the rectum or anus. It is caused by frequent stretching of veins, usually associated with irregular stools, constipation, prolonged and strained muscular effort, pregnancy. Hemorrhoidal nodes are internal and external. The internal nodes are formed in the rectum, about 2.5 cm above the anus. The external nodes are located in the anal canal. During defecation, they are often squeezed outward in the form of dense, painful cones. Hemorrhoids can also ulcerate and bleed due to multiple extensions and contractions of the rectum and anus during defecation.
Diabetes sugar - a widespread endocrine disease caused by a deficiency in the body of insulin (the hormone responsible for the metabolism of carbohydrates in the body) or its low activity. Due to these reasons, the blood glucose (hyperglycemia) increases, which leads to a change in metabolism and a gradual defeat of virtually all functional systems of the body. Normally in a healthy person, the fasting blood glucose level ranges from 3.3 to 5.5 mmol / L (60-100 mg per 100 ml), and after 1-1.5 hours after ingestion does not exceed 7-8 mmol / l (140 mg in 100 ml). The manifestations of diabetes are determined by the degree of insulin deficiency, the state of organs and systems involved in its synthesis, as well as the synthesis and utilization of glucose. An increase in the latter in the blood to 9-10 mmol / l leads to its release into the urine. In addition, glucose carries with it a large amount of water and mineral salts, which is manifested by an increase in the volume of excreted urine to several liters per day (polyuria), accompanied by thirst and dry mouth. Often there are increased fatigue, general weakness, weight loss, persistent skin itching (especially in the perineal region), poor healing of cutaneous wounds. In the absence of treatment, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes abdominal pain occur. During pregnancy, diabetes mellitus may occur in pregnant women, which occurs at the end of pregnancy, but nevertheless requires treatment, since it is a predisposing factor for the development of other complications of pregnancy.
