Swaddling a child: one hundred clothes - and all without fasteners

Speaking of an infant or a newborn child, we imagine a small helpless creature wrapped in diapers. It has long been accepted swaddling children, and thought that the more carefully the child wrapped, the better. Used so-called svavalniki - long narrow strips of fabric, which wrapped the baby over the diapers. It was believed that while the child will be calm, and when he grows up - will become beautiful and slender. In this situation, the movements were impossible, and the kid himself, in the figurative expression of the English writer-humorist Jerome K. Jerome, "resembled a bed roller in which all the feathers strayed to one end." Subsequently, swine will be considered a harmful, wild custom.
The swaddling was replaced by a tight swaddling, when they tried to straighten their legs and hands, thereby forcibly changing the physiological (that is, natural) position of the child. A tight swaddling not only hampers movement: in this position, the baby is difficult breathing, blood circulation is disrupted.
Recently, there are doubts about the need for swaddling - it is proposed to put on the baby blouses, sliders, overalls almost immediately after birth, and if the ambient temperature allows, then at all leave the child in a light raspashnike and diaper. This is practiced mainly in countries with warm climates. Naturally, heaters are not used in this situation. Let's recall the Mexican and Brazilian television series: there the babies are practically naked, only taking the child out into the street, the mother uses a light veil. Of course, this is a rational grain: the child is given complete freedom of movement, outside the diapers, he takes a convenient position for himself.
But at the same time, the child still "remembers" the comfort that he experienced while inside the mother's body: the ambient temperature was constant, and the necessary food and oxygen came through the umbilical cord, to which he was inextricably linked with the mother. Even when the child urinated, it did not cause him any inconvenience.
Inside the mother's body, the child is in a confined space, typical for this period of development of the embryonic posture: the head is tilted to the chest, the limbs are bent and pressed against the front surface of the body. The embryonic posture is optimal for normal delivery.
Therefore, it is quite natural that the transition from the habitual environment of existence to a new one should occur gradually, and in the first two to three weeks of a child's life this is to a certain extent achieved by constant swaddling. In the third - fourth week of life, and sometimes even earlier, the next stage comes: the baby is put on sliders - first in the daytime, and then at night, although some children sleep better in diapers.
Currently, a free diaper is adopted: it is very important that the baby can move freely with both hands and feet. The child's clothing should protect it from a large heat loss, but at the same time do not cause overheating and do not constrain movements. In the first two or three days after the birth of a baby, they swaddle with their hands, then they leave their hands free. At night after bathing, swaddling with hands is better.
How correctly to swaddle the child? A warm diaper is unfolded on the changing table, then a thin diaper is placed on it - also unfolded. As a diaper, you can use a folded several times a gauze or diaper or put on disposable diapers (using a disposable diaper provides a free diaper, and if you use a fabric diaper, then for a free diapering you need to make a diaper not from one thin diaper, but from two, or from one warm). In case diapers are used from a tissue, a small oilcloth measuring 30x30 cm can be placed between the diapers.
The baby is first put on a ruff from a thin cotton fabric or natural knitwear. Depending on the temperature of the air in the room, use the paschonka - ordinary or with sewn sleeves. Raspashonku smell behind, straighten on the back, so that there are no folds, and bend. Then put on a sweatshirt or a warm undershirt, which is smelling in front and also tucked above the navel. The child is put on the linen prepared on a changing table, put on a disposable diaper, or, in case of using a fabric diaper, lay it between the legs, grasping the buttocks and genitals. Then the child is wrapped in a thin diaper so that its upper part reaches the armpits (hands are left free). The lower end of the diaper is wrapped around the foot to avoid scuffing, from the bottom, the diaper is folded. The legs do not straighten: the child must move his legs freely. Then the child is wrapped in a warm diaper. Swaddling the baby is necessary before each feeding, and between feeding - if it is wet and worried.
Thus, the basic principle of free diapering is not to limit the movements of the child and give him the opportunity to occupy a comfortable position. Do not confuse the terms "free" and "wide" swaddling. Wide swaddling is a special orthopedic technique performed with a therapeutic purpose, which is used for the pathology of the hip joints.
Unfortunately, most children of the first months of life have a violation of muscle tone. In this regard, it is justified to put on early sliders or overalls, in which children can move freely and feel more comfortable than in diapers. On legs it is necessary to put on warm socks. During sleep the child is covered with a blanket.
The baby should be periodically spread on the stomach; It is more convenient for him, if at this time he is outside the diapers.
Finally, you need to think about parents: caring for a child who "wears" sliders is easier than using diapers.
Dirty baby clothes are stored and washed separately from the adult's underwear. The diaper that the baby wet for the first time should be rinsed in warm water and dried. If it is soaked for the second time, it must be spread with a detergent. It is unacceptable to dry wet diapers without tearing them. Diapers, stained with stool, soaked in a bowl and immediately washed. The dirty laundry accumulated during the day is excised with the use of modern detergents intended especially for children's laundry (soap, washing powder), manually or in a washing machine. For drying, the clothes are hung so that no one can touch it. The dried linen should be ironed from the two sides in the first two weeks of the child's life, then at the discretion of the parents. The used disposable diapers are collected in polyethylene bags, then discarded, after having tied the packet. There are special plastic containers for used diapers.
In conclusion, I want to advise young mothers to organize life as rationally as possible. Of course, a child in the first months of life requires increased attention, but you also need a rest!
