A spare option: treatment without drugs

You can treat illnesses not only with the help of medications, and our ancestors did not doubt it. However, each method, both traditional and non-traditional, has contraindications, and not all of them are suitable for babies. So what are the alternative methods used in pediatrics?

Thanks to the achievements of chemistry and pharmacology, modern medicine has been able to treat very many diseases. And, making assignments to patients, including small ones, doctors began to give preference to chemical preparations. However, the back side of the use of such drugs have become more frequent side effects, for example, allergic reactions. In addition, there are diseases that are still difficult to treat with chemotherapeutic drugs. That is why now, in the era of rapidly developing scientific progress, people are increasingly interested in non-ordinary means of providing assistance. Methods of therapy "without drugs" are usually called non-traditional, although many of them have an ancient history and for a long time - before the onset of the pharmacological era - were the only treatment option.

The Vegetation Boom

Phytotherapy is used by many doctors who consider themselves supporters of traditional medicine. In addition, plant components are part of many medicines: for example, drugs for the treatment of heart failure are prepared on the basis of a lily of the valley. Most of the cholagogue is made from plant materials: artichoke, corn stigmas, yarrow. Everyone knows valerian and motherwort - soothing. Eleutherococcus, St. John's wort and echinacea strengthen immunity. The root of licorice, alteyny root, aire - is a cough remedy. Infusions and broths of chamomile, succession, celandine, mint leaves help from skin diseases. A herbal preparation "Chlorophyllipt" (in fact, extracting chlorophyll from the leaves of eucalyptus) is one of the most powerful agents against staphylococci. There are many more examples of the use of plants in modern medicine, both in the composition of medicines and in the form of bioadditives. BADs on plant raw materials, which are collections of medicinal plants, are now offered in huge quantities.

One of the options for herbal medicine is herbalism, or quackery. This method assumes an almost complete rejection of pharmacological agents. Usually the herbalist himself collects or grows medicinal plants. But before resorting to this method, one must obtain a guarantee of their quality, because modern ecology requires that these plants grow in places that are deaf and remote from people, which are fewer and fewer.

Microdose

This method has a long history. Based on the principles of "treating like-like" and using ultra-small doses of active substances, homeopathy has become another alternative to allopathy (so scientifically called traditional treatment). And if until recently allopaths refused to recognize it, considering it a frivolous and ineffective discipline, in the last 20 years the situation has changed. Homeopathy received official recognition, it even began to be taught in medical institutes. Next in the pharmacies were homeopathic remedies reminiscent of traditional medicines: in the form of tablets, suppositories, drops and potions. Such funds are suitable even for the smallest ones: for example, drops of "Edas" help with colds, Viburkol suppress a sleep and lower the temperature, the drug "Anaferon" (Materia Medica) protects against viral diseases.

Before assigning a classic homeopathic "ball" to a small patient, a homeopathic doctor can perform a small Fole or Bioresonance diagnosis.

Classical homeopathy really helps the kids in certain cases, but one must keep in mind that the proper selection of such therapy depends on the talent of the homeopathic physician, and to a much greater extent than in allopathy. Figuratively it is possible to compare a homeopath with a sniper, conducting aim fire by illness. If the target is chosen incorrectly, there will be no sense from its efforts. Allopathy in this analogy is better compared to artillery: it is possible to get into the disease "to get into", and "neighboring territories" to damage, having received undesirable effects from the action of medicines.

Biological union

Unlike phytotherapy and homeopathy, whose history counts hundreds of years, another direction of alternative medicine, biotherapy, is the achievement of the last decades. The method is based on the use of living microorganisms that live in the human body. Such treatment is very natural, as it does without the use of foreign substances. Biopreparations are also the means obtained from donor blood - immunoglobulin preparations (kids are usually prescribed a complex immunoglobulin preparation of KIP and KIPferon are candles).

Biotherapy helps in the treatment of many infections, especially intestinal infections, in correcting dysbacteriosis, strengthening immunity, in allergic diseases. As in the case of phytotherapy and homeopathy, medicines and dietary supplements are now based on biomaterial, and the method itself is no longer perceived as unconventional.

Folk remedies

They are usually referred to as different types of phytotherapy or physiotherapy. For example, everyone knows about the benefits of tea with raspberries at high temperatures: it contains natural salicylates - the same substances that are part of paracetamol and analgin. No less well known and well assisted in such heating situations. And here is another example of "folk" physiotherapy: to reduce the heat (from 39 ° C), it is customary to turn the kids into a wet sheet, wipe them with warm water, as if cooling the body from the outside.

The list of efficient "people's means" can be continued. With a strong frustration, babies are helped by blueberry jelly, a decoction of rice or pomegranate crusts - they contain substances that really inhibit bowel contractions. A prune, kiwi, figs, on the contrary, have the property of strengthening it, so they should be given to babies with constipation. To improve the bowels, children are prescribed more chamomile broth: their therapeutic effect is associated with the harmful effects of substances from the composition of this plant on pathogenic bacteria and fungi.

Foreign policy

Of all the methods of recovery without drugs, babies are most often prescribed massage, gymnastics, physiotherapy and hardening procedures.

Massage helps children cope with the problems in the work of the nervous and musculoskeletal system, and even with a tendency to constipation. Massage is curative, it is prescribed by a doctor and performed by a specialist. And there is also the usual, accessible to parents, for example, stroking the baby's belly clockwise around the navel and bending the legs to the abdomen with constipation.

The difference between massage and gymnastics is that in the first case the action on the baby's muscles passes without his participation, and in the second the child takes this load on himself. As in the case of massage, gymnastics is "home" (for example, if a small one is disturbed by constipation, it is worth doing exercises that will strengthen the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall: lift the legs to the stomach, do exercises "scissors", "bicycle"). There is also professional gymnastics, for example a set of breathing exercises (it will be prescribed by a doctor if the child has bronchial or lung diseases). And, finally, if the gymnastics can be practiced by the kids from the age of 2, the massage is prescribed even for the newborn.

Physiotherapy - the effect on the baby's body of warmth, cold and various kinds of radiation. The most famous procedures are warming up, which helps to cope with the effects of nasopharyngeal inflammation; mustard and "banks" for the treatment of acute respiratory disease (by the way, now their experts have doubts about their effectiveness); UFO - ultraviolet irradiation, before it was often prescribed to protect babies from rickets, they are now more likely to be used to treat jaundice of newborns; laser treatment - it helps with some vascular diseases and problems with adenoids.

Hardening is a way to strengthen the immunity, known since the time of Hippocrates. One of the important requirements of the method is gradualness: efforts will give the result in the event that the hardening load will grow gradually. The speed of the transition from mild to stronger influences depends on the state of the baby's organism and the reaction of the first to what is happening. Another requirement is the systematic nature of hardening. During a long break the body gradually loses its persistence skills in the face of the disease. If such a break happened, the hardening must begin again. To start such procedures is best in the summer, and the first "trainer" of the baby will be water, the temperature of which will need to be reduced gradually. By the way, the combination of tempering and gymnastics gives an even better result.

The scales

In order not to make a mistake in choosing an effective and safe method of treatment "without medicines", it should be entrusted to the doctor. There are situations where only the medicine can help the baby, and there are cases when the solution of this task will be under the force and alternative means. For example, in the treatment of infections with worms, the effect of modern means is many times greater than any antiparasitic phytopreparation. In addition, they "work" softly. And still it is necessary to remember, that methods of treatment "without medicines" can be combined with reception of medicines. For example, with angina, a combination of folk remedies, phyto-, biotherapy and antibiotic will only benefit the babies. For the treatment of intestinal disorders, children are immediately prescribed biologics, and chemicals - intestinal antiseptics. Complementing pharmacological drugs, alternative drugs help reduce the "chemical" load on the baby's body.

Go Another way
  • Exotic for us, but traditional in Asia is Chinese medicine - for example, a complex of acupuncture and moxibustion, and Ayurvedic medicine is a method of treatment from India.
  • There are still such areas of alternative medicine as astromedicine - the selection of therapy based on a horoscope. It is not necessary to talk seriously about such an approach.
  • Somewhat apart is treatment with the introduction of hypnosis, but it does not fit the kids. This method helps to cope with some mental states, stuttering and enuresis (the so-called "no surprises" at night).
