Diarrhea in pregnancy: avoid self-treatment

If a future mother has a frequent stool (more than three times a day) and is liquid and watery, and sometimes with manifestations of "incontinence", then we can safely call this state diarrhea (under the simple name of "diarrhea").

Causes of diarrhea in pregnant women

Frequent and liquid stools arise because water in the large intestine is not absorbed in a timely manner and feces are quickly removed from it. This may be due to damage to the intestinal mucosa or increased intestinal peristalsis.

The causes of diarrhea in pregnant women can be food poisoning or intestinal infections (which is very important in the summer), toxicosis, insufficiency of digestive enzymes, dysbiosis, helminthiases, malnutrition and disruption of the nervous system (for example, against stress).

By the way, against the background of nervous experiences, irritable bowel syndrome (also called bearish disease) can develop. A distinctive property of diarrhea in this syndrome is that it worries the expectant mother only after nervous disorders.

Sometimes a sudden diarrhea in the last days of pregnancy can be a sign of the onset of labor. In this case, it is connected with the fact that the child's descending head presses against the rectum (this condition, as a rule, is combined with frequent urination and departure of the mucous plug).

Usually, a disorder of the stool occurs after 30 or more minutes (up to 5-6 hours) after using a dubious product, which, incidentally, externally and to taste can be unchanged with microbial damage.

If diarrhea occurs in a pregnant woman, it is necessary to call a doctor without delay to clarify the cause and purpose of the treatment.

Nutrition for diarrhea: antidiarrheal diet

On the first day of diarrhea during pregnancy, it is necessary to follow the doctor's recommendations and maintain a water-tea break. This is the so-called state of food rest, when you need to give up solid food and drink a sufficient amount of liquid (up to 8 glasses) in the form of loose tea (preferably green), broth of rose hips, rice broth, alkaline mineral water without gas, etc. Drink beverages small sips, often and preferably in a heated form. On this day, it is better not to eat anything.

If the problem with the stool on the second day persists, then you can suggest the following drinking diet:

8.30 - a glass of slightly sweetened rosehip broth in a warm form;

10.00 - a glass of warm rice broth;

11.30 - a glass of warm broth from dried blueberries;

13.00 - a glass of strong, not very sweet green tea;

16.00 - a glass of jelly from dried blueberries;

18.00 - a glass of warm decoction of dried fruits;

19.30 - a glass of warm rice broth;

21.00 - a glass of slightly sweetened broth of wild rose in a warm form.

From products you can afford white rusks, a liquid slightly salted porridge, cooked on the water (rice, buckwheat, semolina) without oil. In small quantities, mashed potatoes are also free from oil and milk.

On the third day, you can expand the list of allowed products by introducing dietary foods that have a fixing effect.

But on the fourth day, even if the stool is normal, a pregnant woman should give preference to foods that will facilitate the work of the gastrointestinal tract and will help restore his digestive activity.

Bread and bakery products: rusks from the highest grade flour, not cooked. You can not rye bread and fresh bread.

Soups: we cook on low-fat fish and meat broth (for this, after boiling meat or fish put broth in the refrigerator and, after solidifying the fat on the surface, remove it) with the addition of rice or buckwheat.

Dishes from meat and fish: steam cutlets, knels, meatballs, soufflé from boiled non-fat and lean meat of beef, veal, poultry, fish (with meat necessarily cleaned from fascia and tendons, and fish only take lean varieties - pike perch, pike, carp, cod). Forcemeat for cooking it is necessary to pass 3-4 times through a meat grinder with a fine grate. In this case, any spices in the preparation of dishes is recommended to be excluded.

Garnish: porridges wiped from oat, buckwheat, semolina, rice cereal, are prepared on the water. It is necessary to exclude beans.

Eggs: To relieve the bile excretory system, it is necessary to limit up to 1 egg per day in the composition of the dish. This is due to the fact that the egg yolk actively stimulates the formation and excretion of bile and can overload the liver.

Fruits, berries, vegetables, sweet dishes: in the form of jelly, broths and kissels from black currant, blueberry, dogrose.

Exclude: confectionery, as well as fruits and vegetables that cause fermentation and irritation of the gastrointestinal tract (cabbage, beet, turnip, radish, radish, sorrel, spinach, onions, garlic, mushrooms, pears, melons, apricots, plums, grapes). Sugar (honey) - not more than 40 grams per day.

Milk and dairy products: whole milk is excluded. Recommended cottage cheese in a grated form, low-fat bio-yogurt and biocream, as well as fresh butter up to 10 g to add to the dishes.

During pregnancy, without the recommendation of a doctor, avoid self-treatment with plant laxatives from the buckthorn bark, rhubarb, jostler fruit, senna leaves, etc., which can provoke cramping abdominal pain and create a risk of termination of pregnancy.

Recognize on time!

The peculiarity of diarrhea in cases of intestinal infections and food poisoning is that the disorder of the stool can continue around the clock (with an average frequency of 1-1.5 hours), it makes you wake up at night and often combines with the symptoms of intoxication: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain , headache, tongue dry, coated. There are pains in the muscles and joints, fever, alternation of sensations of heat and chills. In severe forms of toxicoinfection, acute toxicity and dehydration are observed, muscle weakness, possibly a sharp drop in blood pressure and a worsening of the blood supply of vital organs.
