Breastfeeding experts claim that it is not necessary to completely exclude from its menu even highly allergenic foods such as coffee and cocoa. They can be consumed, but it is important to observe certain precautions and remember the sense of proportion.
Is coffee available for feeding?
Many mothers feel tired and weak after sleepless nights. Coffee contains caffeine, and the main danger of this substance is that it is not absorbed by the child's body and is not excreted from it. It is better to prepare a beverage from grains, since coffee beans have less caffeine than soluble coffee. In soluble coffee, the caffeine content averages from 2.6 to 4% per cup, in the hammer - 0.7-1.8% per volume. Long processing at a high temperature destroys the molecules of caffeine, so in fried grains it contains less. The smaller the grinding of coffee, the more caffeine will be contained in the finished product. So, the best option for a nursing mother will be coffee from roasted coarse grains. The prepared drink should be not strong, and it is desirable to dilute it with milk. A day is not recommended to drink more than 1-2 small cups of coffee. Can I have cocoa while feeding?
Cocoa also refers to caffeine-containing beverages. However, it should be noted that the percentage of caffeine in cocoa is very low, about 0.1-0.2%. The composition of cocoa is a substance theobromine, whose action is to excite the nervous and cardiovascular system. As a stimulant, it acts about 10 times weaker than caffeine. However, cocoa is on the list of highly allergenic products and can trigger an allergic reaction in the child. Coffee also has allergenic properties, but to a lesser extent than cocoa during feeding, so it is much less likely to cause allergies in children. In the first months of a baby's life, when his intestines are not yet ripe enough to delay allergens from mother's milk, a woman who is breastfeeding is not recommended to use high-allergenic foods and beverages, including cocoa and coffee. In the future, she should introduce these drinks into her diet gradually, one at a time, in a small amount, watching the reaction of the child. It is advisable to use cocoa not more than 2 times a week, in the morning, immediately after feeding the baby.

It is proved that tea also contains caffeine, only it is present not in pure form, but in combination with tannin. Together, caffeine and tannin form a substance called theine, which is slowly absorbed into the bloodstream and is rapidly eliminated from the body. Theine, which is part of tea, as well as caffeine in coffee, has a tonic effect on the central nervous system, although it acts more gently. However, strongly brewed tea or a cup of tea, soaking for the night, can have an exciting effect on the nervous system of the mother, cause her tachycardia, agitate the baby, disturb his sleep.Can I tea while feeding?? It is necessary to choose and prepare this drink correctly. In a glass of tea contains 5-8 times less caffeine than in the same amount of coffee. Black tea contains 2-3.3% caffeine, green tea - about 1.5-2.3%. Black tea goes through a full cycle of tea production and is subjected to enzymatic treatment. Green tea is not completely processed and is called unfermented. Therefore, the optimal option for a nursing mother can be daily consumption of green tea.
